Egypt welcomed the resolution titled “Joint Vision for Security and Cooperation in the Region” endorsed by the Council of the League of Arab States (AL), at the ministerial level, during its 164th session held in Cairo on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement: “This resolution, introduced through a joint Egyptian-Saudi initiative, reflects the collective Arab will and consensus to establish a guiding framework for regional security and cooperation. It is rooted in the principles of international law and responds to the sensitive circumstances currently facing the region.”
Egypt reaffirmed that no party should be allowed to dominate the region or impose unilateral security arrangements that compromise its security and stability. “Regional security can only be achieved through full adherence to the core principles outlined in the resolution, most notably, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and the rejection of the use of military force outside the bounds of international legitimacy,” the statement read.
The resolution underscores the right of Arab states to define the foundational principles for regional arrangements. It clearly affirms the right of Arab states to present and assert their vision for a security and cooperation system based on mutual respect, good neighborliness, compliance with international law, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. Moreover, it identifies the end of occupation as the essential gateway to a just and lasting peace, Egypt continued.
Egypt stressed that the resolution’s adoption reflects a responsible Arab leadership role in shaping clear principles to promote security and cooperation. It also conveys a message that regional stability requires respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, the rejection of coercive policies and imposed realities, an end to occupation, and the creation of political and economic prospects that serve peace and prosperity for the region’s peoples.
Egypt reiterated its commitment to working with all Arab states and international partners to translate the resolution into tangible steps that strengthen regional security and reinvigorate the pursuit of a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue. Egypt supported the establishment of an Arab-regional cooperation system founded on mutual interests, equal respect for international law, and the sovereignty and security of regional states. It continues to exert pressure for the adoption of firm stances to halt Israeli violations and stresses that the ongoing obstruction of a settlement process remains a key factor fueling instability, extremism, hatred, and violence, both regionally and globally.
During the Arab League Council, Arab foreign ministers have firmly rejected any initiatives that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states, stressing the urgent need to end the Israeli occupation of Arab territories. They called for a just and comprehensive solution based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and relevant UN resolutions, including Israel’s full withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 lines and establishing an independent Palestinian state, with Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that all Arab ministers believe the Israeli plan goes beyond the war of extermination in Gaza.
