Egyptian Minister of Local Development Manal Awad participates Monday in the grand ceremony organized by the Aga Khan Development Network in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to receive the 2025 Aga Khan Award for Architecture in its 16th edition. The award was granted to the project “Revitalization of Historic Esna City” in Luxor, with participation of Abdel-Muttalib Amara, Governor of Luxor. The project was selected by the award’s master jury as one of seven winning projects this year.
The ceremony is attended by Prince Rahim Aga Khan, Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, alongside senior international guests, members of the master jury, the project’s steering committee, representatives of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, distinguished architects, cultural experts, and representatives of the winning countries.
Also present were the founding partners of Takween Integrated Community Development, the designer and implementer of the Egyptian project: Karim Ibrahim (Project Director), Nevine Aql (Design Unit Director) and development expert Shereen Zagho (Tourism and Economic Component Officer). The minister said Egypt’s win comes after more than 20 years since the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has received the prize in 2004, placing Egypt once again on the global map in the fields of sustainable architecture and heritage preservation.
