Egypt is preparing to launch the eighth edition of Cairo Water Week this October under the theme “Innovative Solutions for Climate Resilience and Water Sustainability.” The event is set to feature broad participation from ministers, international decision-makers, experts, and representatives from international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.
Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, stated that the conference has become a leading global platform for dialogue, innovation, and joint action on water issues. He noted that this new edition builds on the success of the 2024 event, which saw record participation and solidified Cairo’s status as a central hub for constructive dialogue.
Minister Sewilam explained that the eighth CWW will focus on the escalating challenges related to climate change, including rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, prolonged droughts, and destructive floods. He emphasized that water is now at the heart of global climate issues.
The event will be organized around five main themes:
•Cooperation for sustainable water management.
•Climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience-building.
•Innovations for flexible water resource management.
•Nature-based solutions for protecting ecosystems and water systems.
•Infrastructure asset management for sustainability.
The eighth Cairo Water Week will host several prominent events, including:
•A meeting of the World Water Council’s Board of Governors.
•The 37th General Assembly of the Islamic Network for Water Resources Development and Management.
•The joint ministerial meeting on water and agriculture of the Arab League.
•A celebration of the 50th anniversary of UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme.
•The sixth annual European Union conference on water finance and investment.
•The EU-Egypt Water Investment Forum.
This robust agenda underscores Egypt’s commitment to leading regional and global efforts in tackling critical water and climate challenges.
