Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to continue working closely with Tunisia to boost bilateral relations across various sectors. He emphasized the deep historic ties between the two countries, which serve the interests of both peoples and support joint Arab and African cooperation.
The minister’s remarks came during a meeting with his Tunisian counterpart Mohamed Ali Nafti on the sidelines of the meetings of the UN General Assembly in New York. Abdelatty commended the recommendations of the 18th Session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint High Committee, which was held earlier this month in Cairo and chaired by the Egyptian prime minister and his Tunisian counterpart. Abdelatty described such outcomes as a cornerstone for enhancing bilateral cooperation.
He underscored the importance of institutional consultation mechanisms between the two countries and stressed Egypt’s commitment to keeping holding meetings of joint security and military committees to exchange expertise and address cross-border challenges such as terrorism, organized crime, and human trafficking networks.
Both ministers reviewed regional issues of mutual concern, particularly the Palestinian cause and the serious repercussions of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, and the need for maintaining coordination on developments in Libya, given its direct geographical proximity to both Egypt and Tunisia. Abdelatty underlined the importance of maintaining regular meetings for Libya’s neighboring countries, namely Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, as a means to contribute to regional peace and stability.
