Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population of Egypt, held a bilateral meeting Wednesday with Dr. Mansour bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Public Health of the State of Qatar, on the sidelines of the 6th World Mental Health Summit held in Doha, Qatar. The meeting addressed enhancing health cooperation between the two countries and supporting the health sector in the Gaza Strip.
The two ministers discussed developments related to the delivery of medical and humanitarian aid to our Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip and joint efforts to support the health system there. The meeting also reviewed the exchange of expertise in the areas of universal health coverage and health initiatives, with the Qatari side praising Egypt’s achievements in this field.
The discussion addressed leveraging Qatar’s pioneering experience in managing hospitals and health facilities through Hamad Medical Corporation, which operates 15 hospitals, in addition to ambulance services, home healthcare, and long-term care facilities. The two sides also discussed enhancing cooperation in telemedicine, combating infectious diseases, developing primary healthcare, preventive medicine, epidemiological surveillance, and improving treatment care systems. During the meeting, the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Health of Egypt and Qatar was emphasized, encompassing multiple areas of cooperation.
These include supporting the simulation hospital system and cooperating in its development, as well as strengthening partnerships in the field of sports medicine through Aspetar Sports Medicine and Orthopedics Hospital, and exchanging and transferring expertise in the fields of precision and diagnostic medicine. The two ministers emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise in managing health crises and pandemics, and developing the automation of health services and digital transformation.
They also reviewed the two countries’ successful experiences in eliminating waiting lists for critical surgeries, affirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in all health sectors to improve the quality of services provided to citizens. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s efforts in supporting the health sector, emphasizing Egypt’s keenness to strengthen the strategic partnership with Qatar to achieve sustainable health development goals.
