On the evening of September 30, 2025, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck near Bogo City in Cebu Province, Philippines, at approximately 21:59 local time. The tremor, which originated at a depth of 10 kilometers, caused widespread destruction across northern Cebu and neighboring areas. According to official reports, at least 69 people have died, and more than 290 individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded over 379 aftershocks, with several exceeding magnitude 5.0.
Among the structures damaged were historic churches, residential buildings, hospitals, and public infrastructure. In San Remigio, a state of calamity was declared to facilitate emergency response and relief operations. Rescue teams, including military personnel and civilian volunteers, have been deployed to search for survivors and provide aid to displaced families. Temporary shelters and mobile medical units have been established to support those affected.
