On the sidelines of his participation in the 80th sessions of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, met on Thursday with a delegation of senior leaders from the American Jewish Committee (AJC).
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty underscored the longstanding and strategic nature of Egyptian-American relations, which have spanned more than four decades. He highlighted Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting peace, security, and stability in the Middle East, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the interests of both nations.
Minister Abdelatty conveyed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s appreciation for the efforts led by U.S. President Donald Trump to immediately end the war in Gaza. He referred to the recent summit held on September 23 between the Arab-Islamic group and the United States, noting its significance in advancing joint efforts toward de-escalation. The minister expressed Egypt’s firm commitment to intensifying cooperation aimed at halting the bloodshed and preventing any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian population.
He stressed the urgent need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, which would help de-escalate the situation and ensure the sustained and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. He reiterated that a just and comprehensive peace can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stating this as the only viable path to long-term regional security and stability.
Minister Abdel Aty also warned of the grave humanitarian consequences resulting from the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza. He expressed deep concern over Israeli plans involving displacement, killing, and starvation, asserting that such actions constitute a serious threat to regional stability and directly undermine peace efforts.
