Cairo: EgyPulse – News Desk

Major General Dr. Khaled Maghawer, Governor of North Sinai, received Tuesday German Ambassador to Cairo Jürgen Schulz at his office in El-Arish, as part of the ambassador’s two-day visit to the governorate.

During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues of Egyptian-German cooperation in the humanitarian and development fields, particularly in relation to relief efforts for the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The discussions highlighted North Sinai’s vital role as a key logistical hub for the delivery of aid.

Germany praises Egypt’s role in facilitating aid to Gaza

Ambassador Schulz expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza through the Rafah Crossing, underscoring Germany’s strong commitment to supporting relief operations in coordination with Egypt and international organizations.

He noted that the German government has provided €1.3 million in medical aid to Egypt, in addition to €29.3 million channeled through United Nations agencies to meet urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza. The ambassador also affirmed Germany’s readiness to participate in the upcoming Gaza Reconstruction Conference that Egypt plans to organize.

North Sinai’s central role

Governor Maghawer welcomed Ambassador Schulz, commending Germany’s supportive stance toward Egypt’s efforts to assist the Palestinian people. He reiterated the governorate’s commitment to providing full support for the work of humanitarian organizations and agencies operating in the region.

As part of his visit, the German ambassador is scheduled to inspect Al-Arish General Hospital to review the condition of wounded Palestinians transferred from Gaza, and to visit humanitarian aid warehouses in Al-Arish and the Rafah border crossing to follow up on ongoing relief operations.
