Moscow: EgyPulse – News Desk

Egypt has inaugurated its first fully integrated system for recycling aseptic beverage cartons, marking a new step towards advancing the country’s circular economy and sustainable development goals. This is reported by Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS. The system was launched in the presence of senior government officials, representatives of international organisations, diplomats, and experts in environmental management. It is designed to collect used cartons at the community level, recover fibres, and repurpose aluminium-polymer components into environmentally friendly materials.

Officials emphasised that the initiative contributes to Egypt’s Vision 2030 by promoting green innovation, integrating informal waste collectors into the formal economy, and strengthening the principle of extended producer responsibility. The system is also expected to generate green jobs, particularly for local waste collectors, and enhance livelihoods in vulnerable communities.

According to the Ministry of Local Development, the new framework aims to collect more than 700 tons of used cartons within three years, while providing direct economic benefits to over one thousand local waste pickers. Innovative digital platforms based on blockchain technology will be used to track collection, ensure transparency, and incentivise participation. The project also includes pioneering applications for recycled materials, such as transforming composite layers into eco-friendly construction blocks, offering a sustainable alternative for the building sector.
