In televised remarks, Talaat explained that IoT simply means enabling various devices and equipment – not just humans – to connect to the internet. This opens the door for wide-ranging applications that include cars, household appliances, and other equipment. He noted that modern vehicles are now equipped with internet connectivity, which prompted Egypt to establish a regulatory framework allowing this feature for citizens.
Talaat clarified that this feature grants users higher levels of safety and security, allowing a vehicle to send distress or alert signals in emergencies and to communicate with the manufacturer in case of technical malfunctions. The companies that have signed these licenses include a number of major global automotive brands, among them:
•OnStar (a subsidiary of the General Motors global group).
•Mansour MG Automotive (representing the Chinese IM brand).
•Global Auto (BMW).
•Alpha Ezz El Arab (which covers the Volvo, Aston Martin, Lotus, and Lynk&CO brands).
•The Egyptian International Motors Company (EIM) (Zeekr / BAIC).
•The Egyptian Commercial and Automotive Company (Audi / Škoda).
•SMG Engineering Automotive Company (Porsche / Scania).
