Cairo: EgyPulse – News Desk

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, has announced the official opening of the Venezuelan market to Egypt’s fresh pomegranates, a strategic move expected to stimulate export activity and diversify international destinations, strengthening the sustainability of the country’s exports.

According to Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS, the decision was confirmed through an official letter from Venezuelan authorities, which does not impose any new phytosanitary requirements.

This achievement is the result of technical negotiations led by Egypt’s Agricultural Quarantine Authority, supported by the Department of Foreign Agricultural Relations and accredited reference laboratories, which ensured that Egyptian producers comply with international standards.

According to the state press service, Egypt’s total agricultural exports have reached around 7.5 million tonnes so far this year, representing an increase of approximately 650,000 tonnes compared with the same period last year.

Key products include citrus (over 1.9 million tonnes), fresh potatoes (over 1.3 million tonnes), fresh and dried beans, sweet potatoes, onions, grapes, mangoes, fresh tomatoes, pomegranates, fresh garlic, strawberries, and guavas.

Farouk emphasised that the continued growth in exports reflects the sustained development of Egypt’s agricultural sector and its competitiveness in international markets.

Currently, Egypt exports more than 405 agricultural products to over 167 countries and continues to open new markets, such as South Africa for pomegranates, the Philippines for fresh onions and garlic, and Mexico for hibiscus.
