Egypt has completed 1,648 flood protection structures across various governorates, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced. This was reported by MENA, a partner of TV BRICS. The meeting examined the progress of flood protection works at the Monastery of St Paul and the Monastery of St Anthony, currently being executed under the supervision of the Groundwater Sector and implemented by an Egyptian company.

Ahead of the flood season, ministry teams inspected 119 flood channels spanning 336 kilometres, promptly addressing any encroachments. The Ministry’s Flood Forecasting Centre continues to predict rainfall quantities and locations up to three days in advance, sharing real-time data with all relevant authorities, governorates, and ministries.

Across the Red Sea, North and South Sinai, and Matrouh governorates, 1,363 industrial structures with a total storage capacity of 160 million cubic metres have been completed. These include 81 dams, 67 artificial lakes, 242 mountain lakes, 42 industrial canals, 116 barriers, eight protective bridges, 659 underground reservoirs, 15 settling basins, seven Irish crossings, one sedimentation basin, one lake overflow, 111 recharge wells, and 13 diversion channels.

An additional 53 structures with a total storage capacity of 25 million cubic metres are under construction, while five existing structures are being upgraded to enhance efficiency.
