Egypt and Türkiye called for active participation by the global community in the international conference on early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, which Egypt is expected to host this year. The two countries issued a joint statement on Thursday after talks between the two countries’ foreign ministers in Ankara, where they reaffirmed their strong support for the Palestinian people.
The foreign ministers underscored the urgent need to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Gaza. They agreed to continue bilateral cooperation to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need in the strip. Their discussions reiterated both countries’ commitment to the unity of the Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza and emphasized the central role of the Palestinian Authority.
They welcomed the reforms undertaken by the Palestinian Authority, viewing them as steps that would facilitate its return to governing the Gaza Strip once conditions allow. The statement highlighted both sides’ appreciation of US President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the war in Gaza, stressing the importance of partnership with the United States in achieving lasting peace in the region.
The two ministers welcomed the progress made since the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace held on October 13, 2025, reaffirming their commitment to its outcomes within the framework of the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza. Egypt and Türkiye reiterated their unwavering support for a two-state solution, envisioning two democratic and sovereign states living side by side in peace and security within their recognized 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.
Abdelatty embarked on a visit to Ankara on Wednesday, where he delivered a written message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Erdogan on bilateral relations and preparations for the second High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, to be co-chaired by the two leaders in Cairo in 2026. Abdelatty also co-chaired the first meeting of Egypt-Türkiye Joint Planning Group alongside the Turkish foreign minister, and held talks with Turkish businessmen and investors to boost investments and trade.
