Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty met on Friday with Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF). Mushikiwabo’s visit was part of the FM current visit to Paris to head Egypt’s delegation to UNESCO’s Executive Board meetings and spearhead the Egyptian candidacy campaign for the position of UNESCO Director-General in the elections scheduled for October 6, 2025.
Abdelatty expressed his keenness to strengthen relations with the OIF, reviewing political and economic developments in Francophone countries, particularly in light of the unprecedented situation in the Middle East, the Israeli aggression on Gaza and other countries in the region, and the challenges facing African countries.
Abdelatty also referred to the role of the OIF in supporting member states, preserving their sovereignty and stability, and promoting peaceful coexistence and constructive dialogue between North and South countries. He also highlighted the role of the OIF in empowering youth, developing education, and digitizing the country.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the position of the OIF Secretary-General regarding the nomination of Dr. Khaled El-Enany for the position of UNESCO Director-General, highlighting the competence and experience of the Egyptian candidate, who enjoys broad Arab, African, and international support. The Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out the great importance Egypt attaches to the official opening of the new headquarters of Senghor University, affiliated with the Francophonie Organization, in New Borg El Arab City.
