Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation Sunday night with Abdoulaye Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mali, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in combating terrorism across the region.

During the call, Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for its long-standing historical ties with Mali, reaffirming Cairo’s keenness to build on the positive momentum that has boosted bilateral relations in recent years, in order to elevate them to broader and more comprehensive horizons.

For his part, the Malian Foreign Minister briefed Abdelatty on the latest security developments in Mali and the efforts undertaken by the Malian government to counter terrorism and extremism and to restore security and stability throughout the country.

Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of ensuring the highest levels of protection and security for Egyptian nationals residing in Mali, stressing that Egypt continues to closely monitor the situation and maintains constant coordination with Malian authorities to ensure their safety.

He also urged his Malian counterpart to exert every possible effort to secure the release of the three kidnapped Egyptian citizens. In response, the Malian Foreign Minister affirmed that his ministry is working with the relevant departments and agencies on the swift release of the abducted Egyptians.

The two ministers concluded the call by reaffirming their commitment to continue strengthening cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Mali in various fields, in a manner that supports security, stability, and development in Mali and across the African continent.

The Malian Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s deep appreciation for its fraternal relations with Egypt, praising Cairo’s interest in Mali’s security and stability, and affirming his government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of Egyptian citizens residing in Mali.
