Omar Hisham Talaat, President of the Egyptian Golf Federation, announced that the 2025 Egyptian Amateur Open Championship marks a new beginning for golf in Egypt and the Arab world. He emphasized that the tournament’s return after a fifteen-year hiatus reflects the spirit of determination and ambition to develop the sport and strengthen its position both regionally and internationally.
Speaking at the championship’s opening ceremony on Wednesday evening, attended by Ghassan Kabbani, Vice President of the African Golf Confederation, and Mohamed Al-Aziz Al-Futni, Executive Member of the Arab Golf Federation, Hesham noted that the championship – first held in 1920 – is one of the oldest competitions in Africa and the Arab world. For over a century, it has stood as a symbol of integrity, sportsmanship, and national pride. “This championship has always been, and continues to be, part of Egypt’s golf story – a story of passion, tradition, and excellence,” he added.
He pointed out that this year’s edition joins the Arab Golf Series, a regional platform that brings together the best players in the region and provides greater opportunities for competition and growth. This move, he said, represents a key pillar in the shared vision to elevate Arab golf and expand the pool of professional players.
Omar Hesham further stated that golf in Egypt is entering a new era, thanks to the expansion of youth programs, the return of seasoned champions, and the emergence of promising young talents who deserve support and recognition. He affirmed that the Egyptian Golf Federation is building its modern system on principles of good governance and professional management to achieve Egypt’s vision of reclaiming its sporting leadership.
