Egypt’s Ambassador to The Hague Emad Hanna handed over an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands to attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), set for November 1. Hanna delivered the invitation along with President Sisi’s gift for the King – a miniature model of the Grand Egyptian Museum – during a meeting with Christoffer Jonker, Director of the King’s Office, on Tuesday.
The Egyptian diplomat highlighted the special significance of the opening ceremony, which coincides with regaining Egypt’s rightful place on the international stage after electing former tourism and antiquities minister Khaled El-Enany as Director-General of UNESCO earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Jonker expressed his country’s gratitude and appreciation for this invitation, hailing Egypt’s pivotal role in maintaining regional security and stability, which has been crowned by the signing of a peace agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip during the Sharm el Sheikh Peace Summit on Monday.
The major historical event is the culmination of a decades-long project to create the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.
