President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has welcomed Kyrgyzstan’s decision to open an embassy in Cairo, describing it as a strategic step that will advance bilateral ties, particularly in economic, trade, and investment fields. El-Sisi made the remarks on Wednesday as he received President Sadyr Zhaparov in an official reception ceremony, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement. Zhaparov is making the first official visit by a Kyrgyz president to Egypt.
The two presidents witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding to enhance collaboration after holding expanded talks. Zhaparov said Kyrgyzstan’s embassy opening decision reflects its recognition of Egypt’s pivotal role in the Middle East and Africa, as well as the historical ties between the two nations. Zhaparov also leveraged the meeting to congratulate El-Sisi on the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
Boosting Trade, Cooperation
The two leaders discussed enhancing trade and investment between both countries, exploring joint manufacturing opportunities, and strengthening cooperation between religious institutions in both countries to counter extremist ideologies. Moreover, talks explored potential engagement of Egyptian companies in Kyrgyzstan’s development and reconstruction efforts, given the extensive experience of Egyptian firms in such areas.
El-Sisi underscored the historic significance of Zhaparov’s visit in opening new horizons for bilateral relations and expressed Egypt’s eagerness to strengthen cooperation with Kyrgyzstan across various fields. The Egyptian leader also highlighted the ongoing coordination to hold meetings of the joint government committee on economic, scientific, and technical cooperation.
These meetings represent as an institutional framework to follow up on the outcomes of the visit and build on them, El-Sisi stated, reflecting the strong political relations between the two countries.
Gaza War, Central Asia
Furthermore, the meetings addressed political developments and regional issues, especially the war in Gaza. El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian assistance, noting Egypt’s intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza by the end of November.
Zhaparov expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s active role in achieving the ceasefire, culminating in the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace, and stressed the importance of full implementation of the agreement’s provisions. Meanwhile, the Kyrgyz president presented his nation’s perspective on developments in Central Asia, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities amid ongoing international changes.
