Cairo: EgyPulse – News Desk

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani. Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President Sisi and Iraq’s Prime Minister discussed ways to strengthen Egyptian-Iraqi bilateral relations, in light of the success of the third session of the two countries’ Joint Higher Committee, which was held in Baghdad in January 2025.

Both sides stressed their commitment to building on the results achieved through the committee’s work, in order to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the commercial and economic fields. President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full support for Iraq in its reconstruction efforts and in the implementation of infrastructure projects. The President emphasized Egypt’s readiness to contribute effectively to these efforts, including through the private sector, given the extensive expertise and significant capabilities of Egyptian companies.

The Iraqi Prime Minister valued Egypt’s position in support of Iraq, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s solidarity and backing. The call also focused on the latest regional developments, primarily the Israeli aggression against the State of Qatar. Both sides voiced their categorical and vehement condemnation of this disgraceful attack, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter. They also underscored their solidarity with the State of Qatar, rejecting any infringement on its sovereignty or attempts to destabilize it.

President Sisi and Iraq’s Prime Minister also discussed developments in several regional countries, particularly in the Gaza Strip. They reiterated the critical importance of achieving an immediate ceasefire and of ensuring unfettered access for significant quantities of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Both leaders reaffirmed their absolute rejection of the displacement of the Palestinians from their land.

President Sisi also reviewed Egypt’s efforts and engagements aimed at encouraging parties involved in the Iranian nuclear file to resume negotiations. These efforts culminated in an agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, brokered by Egypt, to resume cooperation between the two sides. This came as part of Egypt’s commitment to containing regional tensions and promoting constructive dialogue, with the aim of reaching a peaceful settlement to this critical issue.
