Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu held an important visit to Egypt on Monday, where he met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. According to a statement issued by the Russian Embassy in Cairo, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and economic relations, in addition to discussions on regional and international security developments.
Shoigu emphasized that Russia remains committed to boosting its economic and commercial partnership with Egypt, stressing that these ties are mutually beneficial and should not be affected by external pressures.
The two sides also reviewed ongoing joint projects, most notably the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant in El-Dabaa, which is being built with Russian cooperation and is considered one of the largest infrastructure projects between the two countries. Shoigu noted that major strategic projects between Egypt and Russia are progressing successfully. Regional issues, including the Middle East situation and international security challenges, were also part of the discussions.
