Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam said that Egypt has strong, underutilized potential and described the current moment as right for expanding economic ties. He noted Egypt’s stability and consistent policy direction as favorable conditions for partnership. During a meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in Cairo, the two leaders discussed increasing trade and investment, cooperation in port management, and private sector engagement.
They also touched on opportunities in infrastructure, desalination, and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), which the Singaporean president is scheduled to visit. For his part, Madbouly said that Egypt values its relationship with Singapore, which began in the 1960s, and sees the country as a model of development.
He expressed interest in attracting more Singaporean investment, particularly in strategic sectors like logistics and clean water technologies. He also outlined plans to involve the private sector in airport operations, with guidance from the International Finance Corporation.
Discussions also covered the role of upcoming business forums and private-sector talks to support practical cooperation. Meanwhile, Shanmugaratnam welcomed the proposals, noting that his country sees Egypt as a partner in trade and investment.
