Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today received Saturday Dr. Khaled El-Anany, the newly elected Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs.
Presidential Spokesman Mohamed Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the President began the meeting by renewing his congratulations to Dr. Khaled El-Anany on his overwhelming victory in the UNESCO Executive Board elections, receiving the support of 55 out of 57 countries, and being elected Director-General of the organization.
President El-Sisi emphasized that this victory is a historic achievement that reflects Egypt’s high standing and embodies the profound international appreciation for its cultural heritage, rich culture, and intellectual contributions, as well as its influential presence in regional and international forums. He also expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the countries that supported Egypt’s candidate.
The official spokesperson stated that Dr. Khaled El-Anany, for his part, expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to President El-Sisi for the tremendous support he received from him, as well as from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its ambassadors and diplomats, the Egyptian Mission to UNESCO, members of his campaign to promote the nomination, and the relevant national agencies, which culminated in this historic victory.
Dr. El-Anani emphasized that the international trust bestowed upon him carries a great responsibility, requiring him to work continuously to enhance international cooperation to protect human heritage, disseminate knowledge, and consolidate the values of peace, coexistence, and tolerance among different civilizations. The official spokesperson explained that Dr. El-Anani indicated that his vision for the next phase aims to achieve UNESCO’s goals and activate its role in its areas of expertise.
In this context, President El-Sisi stressed the importance of continuing close cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO in the fields of education, culture, and heritage preservation, affirming Egypt’s commitment to supporting the organization’s activities and humanitarian initiatives, and working together to build bridges of communication between cultures and peoples.
